Cheriton 1644

 Richard has a collection of 10mm ECW which I find so inspirational every time I see them out on the table. The chance for a game was too good to pass up and he had chosen the battle of Cheriton in 1644.

Very early moves- the cavalry clash...and the Royalists swept the field....

As the Royalist cavalry swept their opponents away, The Royalist foot advance.

Their Parliamentary opponents move forward....and they were all disordered by the hedges- and they remained that way for most of the game.

The Royalist left- the fighting over the wooded hill...the Royalists would just win this too

The latter staged. At the top- teh Royalist horse have won and are sweeping forward. In the middle the Royalist foot are taking a pounding, but just holding on

So Waller's cavalry were destroyed, his right flank was disintegrating- and his center was under pressure.......So a Royalist victory!!  A really great game. 

Now thinking about this- I could analyse all the reasons for the outcome.. have a detailed debrief, discuss it ad nauseum ...or......or ....or I could replay it.

I chose the latter course in 28mm!

Ironically the 28mm version got off to the same start as the 10mm version.

In the center the infantry did not hesitate- both sides advancing quickly. The Parliament Foot able to roll off their disorders

The fighting for the wooded hill was intense- and the Royalist were finally driven off 

( yes...I know they are Covenanters....I didn't have enough figures)

   Another very bloody game that saw a Royalist defeat this time. Their cavalry did very well, but their infantry found themselves beaten by the Parliamentary foot. So this time a victory for Parliament!
