One damned Unit.....that's all it took.

Spyros' Romans wanted another crack at his Germans- so Ross and he played the Romans and I played the Germans...and I had them on the ropes....a collapsed flank....morale tests...but one damned unit held up my advance.....by mid game it looked like the Germans had done it......but it wasn't to be.....because of those %$%#^*& Praetorians!!!

The initial deployment. ( The orange dice just represent the deployment area)

Turn 2

The Germans skirmishers well ahead for the main German line...causing a few casualties amongst the Romans. ( Note the position of those Praetorians)

German left flank....cavalry and infantry swarming forward.

German right flank.....also swarming forward....let's face it, there's no much else they can do.

Turn 3 German left flank.

The center. My skirmishers were causing him some problems. The Romans lacked the skirmishers to drive mine away...so they had to move forward to chase them away.....

The Roman's Sarmatian allies slam into my infantry...

My infantry buckle, as more join the fray, swarming over the Sarmatians and tearing them from their horses

On this right flank I was winning....overwhelming the Romans

The German left and center.

In the center the Romans formed Testudo and pushed down off the hill

Here my Germans swamped the Auxiliary Archers and further to the right just off camera the Sarmatians

But it wasn't to be.........there was ONE unit left on that flank that I should have overrun and then swung in behind the Roman line. F*&%king Praetorians.
They received and withstood three charges.....they passed three morale tests and refused to break.
By that time the rest of my army had thrown themselves at the Roman line...and been thrown back.

In turn three it looked like the Germans had their enemies on the ropes.
By turn 6 the Romans were victorious.
Oh well alea acta est.

F*&%king Praetorians.
