I thought I'd play a couple of small scenarios before I put on the big Vienna game- to make sure my rules are sound!
In this case an Imperial vanguard contacted a force of Ottoman infantry with a gun at an important crossroad....somewhere north west of the besieged city.
The imperial force of three infantry regiments and two squadrons of imperial cuirassiers lacked artillery, but the commander decided to engage the Ottoman force.

| The key three objectives- The hill, the crossroads and the ruins |
![]() |
| The Ottoman strongpoint. |
![]() |
| The Imperials advance- the cuirassiers cresting the hill. The Ottoman infantry forming a crescent to absorb the attack. |
![]() |
| Ottomans waiting. |
![]() |
| The Imperial infantry had a tough job against this defensive position. |
![]() |
| Imperial Regiments Baden and Thurheim advance. |
![]() |
| Two squadrons of Imperial Cuirassier Regiment Caraffa shake out into line. |
![]() |
| Volleys against the ruins. |
![]() |
| Regiment Baden- volley fire! |
![]() |
| The volley from Regiment Baden catches some of the infantry in the open. The Black marker is a Disorder marker. Red marker is the number of Casualty Points. |

| Get stuck in! |
![]() |
| Regt Thurheim was to launch three charges against the ruins.... the charge marker on the left is for Regt. Baden, also attempting to drive the Turks from their position. |
![]() |
| Attacks along the line. |

![]() |
| The first Squadron, Caraffa Cuirassiers ,charges in... |
![]() |
| ...and in a woeful die roll fail to hit the Ottoman infantry ....who drive the cuirassiers off. |
![]() |
| Imperial Regiment Thurheim captures the gun but is driven off by the supporting Ottoman infantry |
![]() |
| The Imperial attack going to shambles.... Cuirassiers having retreated |
Hmmmm.......not a good result for the Imperial force! But the rules work!!

Nice little scenario- what brand are the Ottomans? Front Rank for the Imperials?
ReplyDeleteThanks John. Yes - Front Rank for the Imperials. The Ottoman infantry and artillery crew are a mix of Perry Miniatures and Eureka miniatures ( Turkish Pirates!) I don't remember where the gun was from.
DeleteLooks great. Nice units. How do your rules work?
ReplyDeleteThanks Colin. They're reasonably simple. Shooting is on a 5+ at close range-6+ long distance. Cavalry squadrons test on a D6- Infantry on a D12 with variations for Raw/Drilled/Veteran or Guard. There are categories of troop type- Ottomans are all classed as Shock foot or Shock Horse. Imperials are Formed Foot or Pistol Horse (Cuirassiers) or Dragoons. etc. The Ottomans get better dice in melee but the imperial foot outshoot them. Imperial Horse move slower, can shoot at close range but are roughly on a par with the Ottoman Horse in melee. Some standardised movement and it's a simple straight forward , quick set.
DeleteLovely collections on display 👍

ReplyDeleteThanks Richard- I appreciate your comments and support.
DeleteThey look great on the table John - great reward for the effort.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rich- I will be getting everyone together for a Vienna game soon.
DeleteLooked very good . if the rules are OK , then the dice results for the Turks was much better than expected or maybe the Imperials need more backup ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr H- The Imperials need back up!
