Just about every SYW game we play involves a scenario which makes for some fascinating games. But this time we decided to line our armies up and 'have at' each other...how original??!!

| Russians on the left and Prussians on the rght. |

| My Russians! |
![]() |
| Two Grenadier Regiments |
![]() |
| Russian Cuirassiers |
![]() |
| Russian Dragoons |
![]() |
| Frederick's Boys waiting to dish out some punishment. |
![]() |
| Nice straight lines....just like their historical counter parts......Linear Warfare! |
![]() |
| Game underway- the Prussians advance in the distance- and the Russian guns firing in response. |
![]() |
| Marching into musket range. |
![]() |
| The Russian right flank. My Cuirassier Brigade....turns 1-4 ......I rolled '1' each time. My Cuirassier brigade refused to move...for FOUR WHOLE TURNS.......of a six turn game. |
![]() |
| Turn 2....they're still there. |
![]() |
| Turn 3....still not moving. |
![]() |
| Turn 4....watching the enemy after another '1'.....!!! |
![]() |
| Infantry clash in the middle. |
![]() |
| Turn 5...my cuirassiers on the far right finally get move orders....but get hit by his dragoons. |
![]() |
| The Russian infantry (left)...outmanoeuvred.....out-shot and out-fought by Frederick's boys. On the far edge of the table- my dragoons being massacred by his cuirassiers. |
![]() |
| The Russian line getting thinner.... |
Needless to say....I lost 40% of my army....and Ross was grinning from ear to ear.
REMATCH!!

Beautiful looking linear game, John. Unfortunate result for you, obviously, but Frederick was a tactical genius!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith- that's the excuse I used...I was fighting Frederick himself!
DeleteBeautiful display of your SYW collection. Your cuirassiers need new leadership!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon- yes new leadership, better dice, and a new owner!
DeleteLining up lines of lovely troops can be great sometimes and these look so good. Made for a marvellous game too by the looks and sounds.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
Thanks James- no matter what you are playing, Linear warfare always looks the part!
DeleteLovely looking game and gorgeous troops.
ReplyDeleteA degree of frustration was apparent. What rules did you use?
Apologies... just looked at the labels for this post and found the answer.
DeleteNo problem Richard- Honours of War always make for a great game.
DeleteLovely and a re-match, to give the cuirassier commander one last chance 😊
ReplyDeleteOne last chance?.....I think so!
