Assyrians and Elamites.....part 5

The ongoing saga between these two historical opponents saw another chapter added...and an Elamite victory!!

Remembering the lessons from my last game- I weighted my left and withheld my right.

My right- here the Elamites were going to face the full weight of the Assyrian Chariots/

...the Assyrian Chariots...and my light cavalry sweeping wide to try to slow them down.

The Assyrian battle line.

This shows the deployment....and my archers...lots of them sitting back on the hills. On the far side- my good chariots and most of my light cavalry.

My light cavalry out in front- skirmishing with the Assyrian cavalry

He's coming up 'in the same old way'.....and I will have to meet him in the same old way. The games between these two historical opponents  have an interesting conundrum. The Assyrians have much better close combat troops- and I have the better archers. His Guard are the equal of my archers..but there isn't enough of them to deal with ALL my superior archer units.  The Elamites have better fire power, the Assyrians much better melee capability.....so Ross has to get stuck in fast....when he reaches my line there is not much I can do- but keep firing!

The crucial point in the game- my heavy chariots, light cavalry and kallipani on my left ( to the right of the pic) hit his right flank ( left of the photo). I won here and was able to sweep around. It was here that the Elamites won the game.

My light causing problems...and my heavy chariots as back up.

My left flank- sweeping the Assyrians away and getting behind the main line.

The white line is my sweeping flank manoeuvre. The orange lines show the Assyrian advance....

In the end an Elamite victory....Assyria 2, Elam 2...and 1 draw!!

  1. Excellent, John! I always really enjoy seeing your beautiful Biblicals out on the table. I am a little surprised that the Elamites managed two victories out of four against the Assyrians. Respect!

    1. Thanks Jon, I am amazed too- but the knack is to keep shooting!! Once those Assyrians get very close...there are a lot of dead Elamites.
