The advance to Vienna

I thought I'd play a couple of small scenarios before I put on the big Vienna game- to make sure my rules are sound!
In this case an Imperial vanguard contacted a force of Ottoman infantry with a gun at an important crossroad....somewhere north west of the besieged city.

The imperial force of three infantry regiments and two squadrons of imperial cuirassiers lacked artillery, but the commander decided to engage the Ottoman force.

The key three objectives- The hill, the crossroads and the ruins

The Ottoman strongpoint.

The Imperials advance- the cuirassiers cresting the hill.  The Ottoman infantry forming a crescent to absorb the attack.

Ottomans waiting.

The Imperial infantry had a tough job against this defensive position.

Imperial Regiments Baden and Thurheim advance.

Two squadrons of Imperial Cuirassier Regiment Caraffa shake out into line.

Volleys against the ruins.

Regiment Baden- volley fire!

The volley from Regiment Baden catches some of the infantry in the open. The Black marker is a Disorder marker. Red marker is the number of Casualty Points.

Get stuck in!

Regt Thurheim was to launch three charges against the ruins.... the charge marker on the left is for Regt. Baden, also attempting to drive the Turks from their position.

Attacks along the line.

The first Squadron, Caraffa Cuirassiers ,charges in...

...and in a woeful die roll fail to hit the Ottoman infantry ....who drive the cuirassiers off.

Imperial Regiment Thurheim captures the gun but is driven off by the supporting Ottoman infantry

The Imperial attack going to shambles.... Cuirassiers having retreated

The cuirassiers broke....Regt Baden fled...Ottomans till holding.
Only on the extreme ends- Regt Thurheim (extreme right) and Regt Croy ( extreme left) still in action. The Ottomans controlling the ruins, the crossroads and a unit of infantry sitting on the hill.

Hmmmm.......not a good result for the Imperial force! But the rules work!!
