Army in Review- Louis XIV

I took to cleaning out my cupboard and putting the whole Louis XIV force on display. I didn't realise how big! Most of the units come from the War of the Spanish Succession, but quite a few are from the 1670s, 80s and 90s. So there is a mix of uniforms and many have pikes too.

There's 25 infantry battalions:
2 Guard Francais,
2 Guard Suisse
2 Regt Piedmont
2 Regt Picardie
2 Regt La Couronne
3 Regt Bourbon ( 1 with pikes)
2 Regt Auvergne
2 Regt Beauvoisis
1 Regt Dauphin ( with pikes - older uniform)
1 Regt Bulkeley ( Irish)
1 Regt Fitzgerald (Irish)
1 Regt Alscase ( with pikes- German)
1 Regt Schellenberg ( with pikes - Swiss)
1 Regt Salis ( with pikes - Swiss)
2 Regt Royal Italian ( 1 with pikes- for the earlier version)

6 Squadrons of Dragoons- 2 each of Firmacon, Royal and D'asfeld- with dismounted stands

19 Squadron of Cavalry
2 Sqs Regt Conde
2 Sqs Regt Brissac
2 Sqs Regt Florensac
2 Sqs Regt Le Conti
2 Sqs RegtVilleneuve
2 Sqs Regt La Reine
2 Sqs Regt Du Roi
1 Sq Grenadiers a Cheval
2 Sqs Regt Musketeers du Roi
2 Sqs Regt Narbonne

And the Bavarian Allies!!

2 Squadrons each of the Cuirassier Regiments Roth and Arco
2 Battalions of the Lutzenburg Regiment
2 Battalions of the Maffei Regiment
1 Battalion of the Liebgarde Regiment

Throw on the officers, gunners, artillery and some nice vignettes painted by Peter Callan ( Hi Peter!) and its a very sizeable force!!

French Guard and Swiss Guard

The Elector of Bavaria- Louis' only ally in 1704!

Bavarians!

French Dragoons

 Regt Du Roi!

Some musical accompaniment

  4. Beautiful collection and inspirational feast for the eyes and soul :) I'm stumbling more like falling head first into the Wars of Louis XIV after watching series 1 of Versailles. Are the figures Front Rank or are there others?

    1. Thank you! The vast majority are Front Rank- which are my favourite. A few Foundry and Dixon. This has been my No.1 Period for the last 20 years. So much colour and pageantry. Throw into the mix the wars of Louis XIV and the Great Northern War and there is enough to keep me busy for a long time!
